How to Merge Duplicate (Anonymous + Active) Users in Produce8
Sometimes a user may appear twice in your account — once as an Anonymous User (created automatically when the Desktop Agent was first deployed) and again as an Active User (created when they signed up or accepted an invite). The most common way this happens is when a user is created as an anonymous user and later signs up for a Produce8 account through an invitation or shareable link.
Use this guide if: you have duplicate user entries (one anonymous, one active) in Account Settings → User Management.
Step 1: Assign the Agent to the Correct User
You can use either the Desktop App or the Produce8 Web App to re-associate the agent.
Option A — Desktop App
- Have the user accept their invitation or follow their shareable link to finish setting up their account.
- Log in to the Desktop App.
- Ensure the Agent is running — and if it detects a different or no user, a banner will be displayed at the top of the webpage.
- Click Use this Agent for Me.
- Once the banner disappears, wait up to 15 minutes for the sync to complete, then continue to Step 2.
Option B — Use the Produce8 Web App (app.produce8.com)
- Have the user accept their invitation or follow the shareable link to set up their account, if they have not already.
- Log into the Produce8 Web App.
- Ensure the Agent is running — and if it detects a different or no user, a banner will be displayed at the top of the webpage.
- Click Use This Agent for Me.
- Once the banner disappears, wait up to 15 minutes for the sync to complete, then continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Verify Activities Are Tracking
After reassociating the Agent, confirm activities are tracking correctly.
Verify Web Activities
- In your browser of choice, confirm that the browser extension is installed and the Agent is running.
- Visit a website you know is being followed for a few seconds.
- In the Produce8 Web App, navigate to My Dashboard → Timeline & Activities.
- Verify that your visit to the followed website appears on your Timeline & Activities feed.
💡Note: Activities may take a few minutes to appear after syncing. If no data appears after 15 minutes, ensure the Desktop Agent is running and the correct account is associated.
Verify Desktop Activities
- Ensure the Desktop Agent is running.
- Open an application on your device that you know is being followed.
- In the Produce8 Web App, navigate to My Dashboard → Timeline & Activities.
- Verify that your visit to the followed application appears on your Timeline & Activities feed.

Step 3: Disable the Anonymous User
After users have activated their Agent and confirmed that activities are tracking, administrators can safely deactivate the duplicate anonymous user.
- Log in to the Produce8 Web App.
- In the bottom-left hand corner, click on your name to open the menu and select Account Settings.
- In the sidebar, select User Management.
- Confirm that an Active User exists for each Anonymous User.
- For each duplicate, click the ellipsis (...) beside the anonymous users name and choose Deactivate User.
- Type DELETE when prompted to confirm.
- The user will be removed from the Anonymous User list and moved to the Inactive User list.

Your account should now only list active users, and the Desktop Agent should be correctly assigned.
